Also In This Week - Meermin Double Monks

It's a good week. Not am I only going to beat my friend in tennis tomorrow morning, I also got a long-awaited package from Pepe at Meermin today. A shoe model I instantly saw I wanted when it was added to Meermin's website, I was lucky to have Pepe send over a pair for me.

This is my first pair in the Hiro last, and I have to say, it looks fantastic. The shape is elegant, slightly elongated but not aggressive. Add the nice rich whisky shade brown and they'll make a perfect friend for my denim and chinos. They also feature a Dainite sole, making them a proper winter option for us in the north.

More pictures in the weekend or next week, after I've had the chance to photograph them in daylight, so stay tuned.

  1. I've been thinking about Meermin shoes myself. I have a couple of questions:

How long did it take to recieve the shoes after your order? It seems like this is a stock model.

How would you compare the fit of the Hiro last with other shoes you have owned? Would you say it's TTS? And how about the width of the shoe?

    1. I was in contact with Meermin regarding these shoes right when they were added to the website, last year. They had some difficulties getting this leather so they were slightly delayed, and I suppose these are one of the first pairs of these Scotch grain monks.

Previously, when I have bought from Meermin, I emailed them and asked if they had my size in stock. They did and it took about 9 days for my shoes to arrive that time.

About Hiro. The UK7 feels good, not too loose but at least my longwing derbies molded very well to my feet, albeit being slightly close-fitting at first. It's very "normal" as much as the width is concerned. A bit narrower from the waist as the Rui, but similar to many other brands' lasts used in oxfords or other sleeker shoes.

  2. How much were they? And did you have to pay customs to Finland?

    1. Hey. As all Collection Clasica line Meermins, these retail for 160 EUR. As they are shipped from within the European Union there is no customs to Finland.

  3. Nice shoe!
How is the size/fit compared to e.g. Loake/C&J shoes?
I usually wear UK 9 in G and 9.5 in F/E in shoes from Northampton.
    Should i go with 9.5?

    1. Both Loake and C&J have a lot of different lasts, but I would say that the Hiro last is about the same as Loake's Capital or C&J's 348. If you wear a 9G or 9.5F/E, I would go with 9.5 in these, however, every pair of feet are different. :)

    1. Hey,

I pretty much always wear UK7/41, or UK 7.5/41.5 in some cases (my John Lobbs for example). These are very much true-to-size, so if you have "normal" feet I would go for what size you normally wear. :)

      Best regards,
      TNF
