Suede Chukka Boots

So, I got these chukka boots this week. I had some negative thoughts about the model in question, Loake Pimlicos, but after trying them on I was actually quite surprised how well the shape works in real life. Here's a few initial thoughts and some pictures.

The Pimlicos have been made on the Capital last, and the shape is a sort of combination of sleekness and heaviness. A pretty good overall presence then, elegant enough to go with slim chinos and more sartorial looks, but rugged enough to be used with denim and rougher combinations.

The quality is the basic Loake 1880 series quality, so pretty good for the money. Not C&J, but better than most similarly priced products. They've been equipped with Dainite soles and suede is perhaps the best winter material, so I hope they will serve many seasons to come. All they should need is a wash and some Saphir every now and then.

  1. how funny, I also got them in the last days, from this famous british shoe shop.. Anyways I'm glad you like them, I was like them and thought that tthey were having a bad shape, as almost all the pics on the internet are bad and not flattering at all for this shoe. I think they are good but they could be a little rounder on the toe, but this there's the kempton (that I do not like, to be honest). Also the brown could have a been a bit lighter. But I guess that for this price, it is the best pair you will get and as you said very well, they are quite versatile. Now I really want to break them in and rock them those days ;)

    1. Yeah, the Pimlicos could be a little lighter in color, but I think the dark espresso will get more beautiful as it wears down a bit. Hopefully they will get beautiful color variation as time goes by. :)

  3. Funny, I too got the suede Pimlicos this week as I needed another fall/winter shoe for rotation, for the same reason: sleek enough for eleganter looks but also not out of tune with denim. Furthermore I think dainite is the way to go on rainy days.. I really feel bad wearing down my leather soles twice or trice as fast. My other winter shoes are the C+J's Islay and Northcote boot, both dainite and a Sutor Mantelassi boot with half rubber soles.

I also like your meermin longwings.
Thanks for your posting, keep it up-

    1. Hey Bert,

It sure is. And when it gets icy (not sure if it gets icy at your end?) leather soles often aren't really grippy enough. They lay out a lot of grit and sand on the roads here to keep people from slipping and falling, and those small rocks on top of hard ice simply destroy leather soles.

The Northcote is a very beautiful boot, almost bought a pair some years ago. Which color are yours?

The Meermins are OK in quality, but the piece of leather (or more like the three pieces of leather) under the wing just drives me crazy. What I like most about them is just the perfect amount of heaviness and ruggedness I want at this time of the year.

Anyway, thanks for your comments. :)
