The Rest of the Week

Got a few parcels from the UK today, thank you UPS and the Royal Mail. I'll get some pictures and details on tomorrow when I have more time.

Later this week I will also write the first part of what I think will be the fall shoes for 2012 and then add another look or two.

Olive and Pin Dots

Yesterday was a the first time in ages I had something green on me. The weather was quite nice and I decided to use my cotton suit day of the week today.

I'm quite happy with how the suit fits, and will probably wear it like this till the season ends. When the winter comes there will be a lot of time to alter it the way I want. Especially like how it fits from the shoulders and along my torso.

 

Anyway, today I decicded to take out my new olive pin dot tie from Berg & Berg. Pocket square is a plain white cotton square, bought from a small tailoring shop in Milan a year ago. I have to say, the way the collars on this shirt roll is just perfect. Note that if the collar points were at all shorter, this would not happen. Another reason to ditch those crappy fashion shirts. Oh, and I just love those nice horn buttons.

I like using my Herring (made by Cheaney) brogues with this suit. The extra slim leg openings and legs make the shoes look sleeker than ever and the colors compliment each other. Actually, I think the tan shoes, light greyish brown cotton and the olive socks work together just perfectly here. Ans yes, olive socks are just fine here in my opinion. Flashy colored socks such as red ones work rarely, but a more played color like this faded olive is goes well and adds a nice detail along with the tie. The socks are from Berg & Berg as well.

First of Early Fall

To celebrate the new domain www.thenordicfit.com, I'll post a fall-inspired look I had on me last week. The temperature was around 13 Celsius and this was a pretty good fit for the weather I think.

Almost the same as what I posted a few days ago, this one is a little better presented and a tad easier to break down. A light grey wool jacket like the one here is a perfect fall and winter jacket. Warm enough to survive till around zero Celsius and goes well with almost any kind of colors. The patch pockets and semi-soft shoulder keep the overall look casual yet sharp.

Blue houndstooth shirt adds texture, and the wide-spread collar also compliments the overall look. The red silk tie is also the same as before, but works here like charm. Too many patterns tend to make many combinations (just have a look on any fashion brand's look book, or just walk to your closest Stockmann or Barney's) look messy and frankly quite hideous, where as plain colors with interesting textures please even the most demanding eye. Here I've used only one pattern, but the "soft thick wool texture" on the jacket and the rough silk of the tie keep things popping without making you look dizzy.

The pocket square is a real keeper, a wonderful Polo Ralph Lauren vintage print silk square with very nice textures, and perhaps demands a post of its own later on. Here it adds some nice color in fall theme. Especially love the hint of bright dark red.

The boots are my Tricker's country brogue boots again. I love the color, and they fit my feet like a dream. So comfortable, warm but not too warm and the Dainite rubber soles give you the comfort of mind - even if it happens to rain. The semi-heavy beige chinos are a safe bet here, and I could've gone with navy ones as well.  Actually, I think khaki or especially camel cargo trousers might have been a nice touch here, had I wanted to go much more casual.

Sunday

Went to visit a few shops today, or yesterday as it is now. Felt quite casual so it was the time to pull out some denim and pair it with other more casual and relaxed components.

The shirt is a chambray shirt that has featured here a few times, now paired with a fantastic new knit tie I just received from Berg & Berg. Love how the rust and the hues of beige/champagne work with the blue shirt. The silk also creates a nice contrast to the soft looking fabric with its sharp colors and silky shine. The pocket square compliments the whole outfit with its navy, orange and light blue colors, also from Berg & Berg. The suede belt and loafers along with the bracelets make sure the rest of the outfit stays in line and doesn't get too formal.

Warm wool, cashmere and country brogues. The fall is coming.

This week was already horribly cold here in Finland. Temperatures close to 10 Celsius and a freezing wind. Despite that me and my girlfriend visited our family at the summer cabin. Had something more country-inspired and warm on me.

A cashmere blend patch pocket jacket, a navy cashmere (I just hate cheap cashmere, this one is falling apart just wearing it) vest, a white button-down shirt and a silk tie with a bit rougher texture. Woolen pocket square in fall colors.

After losing some weight and especially having had more aerobic training instead of gym, I have to admit the fit on the jacket is a bit off. The right shoulder is about 0.5cm too wide and both the sleeves and the waist need some taking in, I think. Have to give it a bit more time and see if it can be fixed. On the other hand, really love how the tie pops up from the bd-collars and the vest. For some reason I'm always drawn to more Ivy-inspired things when the temperatures start falling.

 

Basic beige chinos as trousers and Tricker's country boots. I think darker boots would've worked better with the other colors, but my Litchfield's haven't arrived yet and I felt the weather called for something a bit heavier.

Thank God Saturday was warm again.

This Week's Newcomers

Here's what I found from the summer sale bins this week. Most are pretty good hybrids for both summer weather but will also be useful when the fall really hits (Although this week started to be quite freezing already..).

First up, a nice burnt orange / terracotta knit tie. Perfect width, about 6.25cm. Paired here with a blue / white gingham check spread collar shirt.

Second, a good all-arounder, brown knit tie with some light blue details. I think this will be mostly used in the more preppy and Ivy-themed combinations, so I've combined it here with a Polo Ralph Lauren OCBD (Oxford Cotton Button-Down shirt).

Third, a nice striped knit tie from Berg & Berg. I love the colors and pretty much bought this one to be worn with my Chambray shirt, as worn here. Just love how the champagne and the shirt's fabric work together.

Then, an olive silk tie with white pin dots, also from Berg & Berg. A classic that I've been missing for a long time. Welcome to my wardrobe, little one. Pictured here with a grey mini-gingham check spread collar shirt.

Bracelets

If you’ve been following The Nordic Fit on Tumblr or now lately here on Blogspot, you might’ve noticed random things sticking out of my wrist every now and then. There are as many opinions of the bracelets' suitability for the modern man as there are wearers, but personally I like them as a part of summer wardrobe. They just add that nice touch of playful spirit into the overall look.

In general bracelets can be found from pretty much anywhere, and most of them are just brandless products. Some of my own favorites include Miansai, Tateossian, Viola Milano and Kiel James Patrick for their mint Ivy themed bracelets.

Double Breasted Flair

Just got this back from the tailor from some alterations, and wore it right away on Friday. A double breasted cotton suit with a nice and relaxed cut. Shoulders are slightly padded, but still retain a natural look. I'd been searching for a light grey unstructured patch pocket db suit for ages, but just couldn't find one for a reasonable price so I settled for this one. The color is just right, after some tailoring the fit is good and overall I'm quite happy. If it just had patch pockets..

 

On Friday I decided to pair this with a white semi-spread collar shirt, E. Marinella silk tie and a Turnbull & Asser pocket square. I personally think this is pretty bang on for work, but for a more casual Saturday walk downtown or other more casual occasions it would work well with a rougher linen or cotton tie. Some bracelets to add a touch of fun and kill of the remains of the thought that double breasted always equals to formal, stiff or boring.

Finally, the trousers and the shoes. I opted for two inch cuffs and tapered the legs slightly slimmer than in any of my wool suits. This is mostly just a personal preference, the way cotton works as a material calls for a bit slimmer leg and leg opening especially in my opinion. In this case, I wore my Alden tassel loafers and navy socks to keep things relaxed and simple.

I'm really going to start looking for a light grey or olive one with patch pockets for next summer. Cotton db is simply the sex!
