Today was probably the last wear for the jacket of my double breasted
cotton suit, and this time on its own with navy Brooks Brothers chinos. The jacket is going to go under the scalpel now that it's season is about to end. I'm planning on tightening the sleeves and letting out the chest a bit (at least), however I suppose this sort of cotton will never settle quite as beautifully as wool would.
The light blue spread collar shirt lets the tie be the center piece of the show. The tie itself is an E. Marinella, my favorite brand when it comes to formal silk ties. I have six, and I love them all. They simple tie the most beautiful knots and the linings are from another world in how they feel. This particular one is my first one, bought a few years ago. The pocket square is navy with a colorful paisley pattern, and I really like how all the components work here with the greyish light brown of the jacket.
I will try posting a few more looks still this week, but my girlfriend is now back studying in another city and therefore I'm without my "cameraman", so we'll see.
Great outfit!!! My favorite so far!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get this beautiful double breasted cotton suit? I adore it and I'm hoping it is available online somewhere. I have a light grey cotton db jacket, but it is completely unstructured and with patch pockets so therefore it works with only the most casual outfits. I only wear it in summer evenings with jeans and suede drivers. I'm guessing from a suit like yours I could get 9 months/year use in my country's climate
Hey there and big thanks!
DeleteThe suit is from SuitSupply, however it doesn't look like they are selling it anymore, I'm afraid. Funny thing is, I had been looking for a light grey totally unstructured cotton db suit with patch pockets for almost a year and when not finding any for less than 1k EUR, I decided to settle for this one. So, in the hope of your jacket still being sold somewhere, where did you get it? :)
I think I actually saw it on their website a couple months ago, but I wasn't sure about Suitsupply and how the product will look in real life, based on the overly prelucrated but still crappy pictures on their site. Seeing it now on you makes me wanna kick myself! Now I'm definetely going to order the Havana jacket that caught my eye before that goes out of stock.
ReplyDeleteMy jacket is from Boglioli, unfortunately from their '10 or '11 ss collection. I've got it on yoox.com for about 1/3 the original price. There was only 1 left hence the big discount. It's a good site to find bargains, if you have the patience to search for the 10%gems in the 90% pile of rubbish.
SuitSupply's stuff is totally OK. The fabrics are usually fantastic for the price, and the craftmanship quite average. For the price I cannot really think of anything else. I would avoid the ties and pocket squares though, and the cashmere blend knits tend to fall apart before wearing them.
DeleteAh, you've been lucky. I'm not a huge Yoox fan, as I'm so lazy at returning stuff. And the lack of measures couldn't be worse when it comes to Yoox. I have been aiming for items I already know to fit me (especially the L.B.M. 1911s), but no luck yet.
Anyway, nice to get comments from a like-minded fella. Like on FB if you want updates on new posts and good night. :)
I recently deleted my FB account so I can't do that, but your blog is in my bookmarks and I check it almost daily(Not daily since I travel a lot and do not always have a good connection or 3g signal :) ). Your style is definitely something I can relate to.
ReplyDeleteAbout yoox, I also buy brands that I already know how they fit. And the fact that they carry a lot of designer stuff that is usually garbage doesn't help either. But from time to time you can get nice classic stuff.
About Suitsupply, they seem like a gem undiscovered by me, so I'm going to give them a try.But I always thought there must be a catch, I've learned that ussualy you get what you pay for. Their intense marketing didn't make me feel good about them either. If you don't mind telling me, what brand would you compare them with in terms of quality from what you own?

Hey Vali,
DeleteThere is also another issue with Yoox, at least for me. I'm often wearing a 36S/38S or a shortened 36/38, and when there is no knowledge of the sleeve buttons being working ones or not, nor of the sleeve length, things get very risky.
I think Yoox is probably the best place to buy stuff (along with eBay) for people who are of some very generic size and know which of their items are of good quality and which aren't. Just like you said, a lot of it is just fashion garbage, but the occasional Boglioli or L.B.M. 1911 can provide a deal of the year.
A big portion of my wardrobe is from SuitSupply, and I would say the worst thing is the irregularity of the quality. The dimensions tend to vary even in jackets of the same "fit" and size, and you will probably find a lose thread or two. On the other hand, the cut is quite slim and fits at least me perfectly. The fabrics are quite nice as well.
They are certainly not as good as my other items from Hickey Freeman, Lubiam, Corneliani or Cavaliere in terms of finishing, but the materials come close or are even better. Their more classic styles work well in my eyes, so I find the quality for money satisfying. Hopefully that helps. :)
Regards,
Thanks for the intel, it's very appreciated. I ordered this morning the havana jacket(blue with brown windowpane) and if that will be ok I will probabily order a suit.
DeleteI'm quite lucky, I'm a perfect size IT52 ur Us42,so I can buy a lot of things online. I usually only have to get the sleeves narrowed. From yoox I buy Incotex trousers(I am very familiar with their different fits), Tods gomminos, Carshoe mocs, scarves, ties. My biggest finds were the previously mentioned Boglioli jacket, another one in navy and a navy wool-cashmere Brunello Cucinelli gilet. I'm quite a sucker for bargains so ebay is a close friend too...
Anyway, thanks and keep it up!
Vali
That's nice to hear. I just browsed through Yoox' new page, this time looking for an olive M65 without any silly fashion gimmicks - didn't find any. Scarves are actually a good idea as you don't need to think about sizing, thanks for the idea.
DeleteAnyway, nice talking to you and let me know what you think about the SuitSupply jacket once you get it. :)
Best regards,
Just one quick question, is this the suit:http://www.suitsupply.com/suit-light%20brown-plain-double%20breasted-p3298/P3298,en,pd.html?start=35&cgid=Suits
ReplyDeleteI hope so, I ordered it today too
Vali
Yeah, that's the one. I didn't know it was still there, but great. Hopefully it fits. :)
